Safe sleep basics

  • Always place your baby on their back to sleep
  • Use a firm, flat sleep surface with a fitted sheet
  • Keep the sleep space clear of pillows, loose blankets, bumpers and soft toys
  • For at least the first 6 months, keep your baby's sleep space in your room, but not in your bed

Coming next

Between seven and nine months, many babies move from three naps to two.

Sleep needs vary widely from baby to baby. Total sleep ranges are based on pediatric sleep guidance; nap counts and wake windows are common patterns, not targets or schedules. If you have concerns about your baby's sleep, please speak with your doctor, or contact us if you would like to connect with our in-house pediatrician.
